Pressure, thermal and flow changes

The event described here can be limited to specific settings and might not be encountered in every geothermal projects. More details about this topic are presented in a report that can be found on GEOENVI website.

Extraction of fluids during the geothermal plant operation produce underground hydraulic pressure changes. The utilization and resulting pressure changes must therefore be monitored to follow the evolution as well as to enable mitigation measures to reduce the negative effects of utilization. Other natural processes may cause changes in geothermal reservoirs, e.g. natural seismicity, precipitation in fractures and volcanic activity.

The table here below provides an overview of this topic in term of risk and impact assessment, i.e. its causes, consequences, the phases concerned, the influencing contexts or the principals monitoring and mitigation measures that can be adopted.
